Job Profile

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project life cycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.



As one of the Technical Program Managers on our Emerging Markets Access and Education team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact. You will be contributing to the development of university and other large community network infrastructures with a view to increasing overall Internet accessibility and driving efforts to increase Google educational product adoption and launching of Google educational initiatives.

Qualifications Needed

Minimum qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with wired and wireless network design and deployment of networking equipment.
  • Network security and administration experience.
Preferred qualifications
  • MS degree in Engineering.
  • Relevant work experience in a technical role. Good project management experience.
  • Ability to define projects and execute within timelines and with multiple stakeholders; proven ability to deliver projects on-time and to budget.
  • Ability to understand technical subjects and emerging technologies and their relevance to the marketplace. Ability to manage large onsite and offsite vendor management and vendor relationships.
  • Ability to effectively operate with flexibility in a fast-paced, constantly evolving team environment. Ability to both think strategically and execute tactically.
  • Strong project and program management skills, and excellent written and verbal skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Support educational institutions on developing plans to improve wired and wireless network infrastructure and design.
  • Define technical training curriculum around network infrastructure, produce white papers and documentation around network design, best practices and industry standards.
  • Manage technical projects or programs, working closely with external partners, Google engineers and technical/non-technical staff to design and launch infrastructure projects.
  • Gather requirements and define the scope of the project. Find resources, manage resource allocation for projects. Develop a plan and schedule, with well-defined milestones.
  • Manage communication of progress/status within the core team and external to the team (stakeholders, partners, etc); escalate issues as necessary.
