GIIS Noida celebrated Annual Sports Meet 2013
On 8th December 2013 Global Indian International School, Noida celebrated its first Annual Sports Day with pomp and splendour. The arena was all set for the students to exhibit their talent. Ms. Nandita Dasgupta, Principal GIIS Noida welcomed the parents and introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. GyanPrakash Gautum, Former Director General, School of Physical Educations and Sports Science, Noida International University. It was a proud moment for GIIS Noida to have Mr. Atul Temurnikar, Chairman and Co-founder, Global Schools Foundation, as the Guest of Honour for the first sports day of the school. Also, present on this occasion was Mr. Rajeev Katyal, Country Director, GIIS India who addressed the parents on the sports endeavours of GIIS.
The sports day started with march past of all the four platoons namely Chrysanthemum, Hibiscus, Orchid and Sunflower. After the ceremonial oath taking the torch was lit. The Sports Meet was declared ‘open’ by the Chief Guest as he addressed the special audience of parents and students.
The Sports Day consisted of track events and drill by the Pre-primary children, followed by 25m flat race by pre-nursery section. Next in round was a hurdle race by first and second standard boys and girls in separate categories. There was three-legged race for standards three and four and 50m race for standards five and six. GIIS students demonstrated aerobics and martial arts with such style and finesse that the audience was in complete awe. The much exciting event came to an end with prize distribution and everyone joined for the national anthem.
Mr. Atul Temurnikar expressed how delighted he was to be a part of the programme and encouraged parents to motivate their children to take up sports seriously as a parallel activity. He mentioned about GIIS producing sports toppers in Singapore and hopes that the same would hold true for India campuses of GIIS.
Excellence in sports is an important attribute to the school as GIIS believes in all-round development of the individual that consists of harmonious growth of the body, mind and soul.
